XIX century is characterized by a significant transformation processes that took place on the territory of Bessarabia, which happened after 1812 in the Russian Empire. If initially, after 1812 the situation of Jews in general was favorable, then gradually (from 20 years of the XIX c.) The Russian government is taking numerous anti-Jewish acts. Under Nicholas I, was made about 600 of these laws. Nicholas I was consistently hostile to the idea of the expanding of Pale of Settlement. Age of Alexander II brought relief to certain categories of Jews. However, under Alexander III and Nicholas II once again saw a dramatic deterioration of the Jewish population of Bessarabia.
